Check out this album cover that Dutch visual artist Baschz recently designed for hip-hop group La Melodia. He tucked a stickybit in amidst the wild colors and chaotic cool!

The album, Electronic Love, was produced entirely on synthesizers so Baschz wanted to bring out the the tech theme on the cover. Fans can scan the code for a video of the duo saying hi and showing them around the record pressing factory. Very cool.

Across the Atlantic, Shropshire Wildlife Trust is using stickybits to create an awesome experience for those exploring the English Hillside. The organization, an environmental charity dedicated to protecting wildlife, is leaving a breadcrumb trail of stickybits for wanderers to scan and learn more about the nature and history of the landscape around them.

They are encouraging those out walking through The Stiperstones to attach pictures of the area. The wall for the code is going to be incredible—images of a beautiful landscape during different times of the year. It’ll also double as sort of a Stiperstones guestbook, showing who has roamed those hills.

We’re really pumped to see what people post — and to have Stickybits hanging out in such a cool area! One of our users, Janna, thought so.

She recently wrote in to tell us about a Stickybits scavenger hunt she created for her boyfriend. She had him scan a box of cereal to find the first hint: a picture of the next item to find and scan for more clues. The BF scanned his way from sunblock to cough drops, and finally to the freezer, where he found a surprise tub of his favorite ice cream!

We love to see people use Stickybits in fun ways, whether it be worldwide social media experiments or little scavenger hunts like this one. Janna’s idea to use images for the clues is a cool twist, and definitely one that gets us thinking. Imagine attaching codes to places in a city with picture clues of other local Landmarks? Could be fun.

Where will your next Scanvenger Hunt take you?

Experimenting With Stickybits.

The #Coolthingspeopledowithstickybits list is coming along nicely! Today’s addition is a project called “Random Thoughts & Observations,” a brainchild of Creative Director Heather Grimstead from DC.

Heather is sending 1000 cards with barcodes (shown above) around the world as a social media experiment. The cards ask people to scan the code and add a comment, post a photo, or say “hi” to the world. The team working on the project intends to leave the cards in all sorts of places; everywhere from nightclubs to subway stations. To read more about the project, click here.

We really like the idea of a sort of global inner monologue happening on these barcodes. With so many out there, tons of people will have the chance to scan and leave their random thoughts.

Very cool Heather!

Stickybits Releases Version 2 of the Android App

We are excited to announce that Version 2 of the Android app is live!
Earn points and level up to access the best rewards

Tag posts as tips, reviews or even wtf

New design (ooh la la)

To download the app, just search the Android Marketplace. Now, off you go—time to explore and score!

HeArtwork uses stickybits to create "art with a memory."

“An artist and a nerd” from Salt Lake City have created a project that plays with the interaction between technology and art. The artist, Jaynel, paints brightly colored hearts in all different sizes, and then adds a QR code to the back—prompting people to scan it with stickybits to add their story and see where the heart has been.

The idea of art with a memory is an interesting one. (Just imagine if there were a QR code on the back of the Mona Lisa!) We are really excited to be a part of this.

HeArtwork hopes to share this project with the world, and are working to raise backers on Kickstarter to help them do so.
Working with McCann-Erickson Singapore, PETA has used stickybits to take their recent ad campaign beyond print and turn it into an interactive experience for anyone who scans.

The response to this innovative idea has been huge: thousands of scans in over 100 different locations in Singapore, along with a buzz of blogging activity.

Like the one shown above, each ad appears to promote designer deals. Yet when someone scans the barcodes, instead of finding a discount, they see a video exposing the animal cruelty involved in producing the items. The final frame leaves viewers with the message: “Know the real price. Shop responsibly.”

You can view the videos here and here. (Keep in mind they are fairly intense.)

We are thrilled to see brands use stickybits in creative ways. And according to 13,000+ scans, it looks like consumers are too.

Project 365 meets stickybits.

Do you remember what you did on July 16th? No idea? Me neither.

The folks at Material Mashup have created a journal that combines stickybits and project 365, so you can document your days with digital goodies. They describe the journal as a “mashup of your old-school diary and your digital camera.” On each day there is a barcode to which you can attach photos, text, or video using stickybits.

Each journal also has a “community” barcode on the first page, turning the project social. You can scan the code to see who else is working on the project. Check out the Material Mashup site here to learn more or to purchase a journal.

Scan code for a free Israel Kamakawiwo'ole download!

Beloved Hawaiian artist Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s greatest hits were released earlier this week. To celebrate, Spotify is offering a free song download from the album. And guess what, they’re doing it with a stickybits barcode! You can scan the code here to download the song, “White Sandy Beach of Hawai’i.” We’ll be listening to this dreamily as the snow comes down in NY.

Awesome idea, Spotify. Keep ‘em comin.

Brisk Makes Art Social.

Cool hun?

Brisk Ice Tea has commissioned artists to create huge, brightly colored wall murals in a couple of spots in both NYC and LA. Each mural is an interpretation of the new risk can and smack dab in the lower right corner is a stickybit barcode, enabling you to post your interpretation too.

These murals do more than color NYC and LA in bright greens and purples (though that is pretty awesome in and of itself). They turn a wall into social art. Every post or comment or picture uploaded to that stickybit becomes a part of the mural.

Check out the time-lapse video of the painting of the mural pictured above. The murals are located at: 7000 Melrose and 1634 W. Sunset Boulevard in LA, and Bedford and 7th and 54 E. 125th street in NY . Stop by, attach a picture, attach whatever first pops into your mind.

World Travelling Snail Mail.

We recently received a very cool piece of mail from our friends at QR Arts. It’s a stickybit printed on a postcard, with these directions: scan code, take a picture of where you are, mail EAST to a friend. We can’t tell if we’re more excited to see the pictures or to witness the six degrees of stickybits…either way, we’re excited.

They’ve sent out 25 of these postcards to travel the world. You can read about the project, and request a postcard, here. At the end of the project QR Arts will post the pictures and show where the stickybits travelled.

Our’s will be heading across the Atlantic soon!
The Most Contagious List of 2010 is out, and guess who’s on it? Yup. We made the cut.

Contagious is a magazine/website/trend spotter that highlights game-changing ideas and technologies.
Gatwick, the busiest single runway airport in the world, is undergoing a £1 billion renovation. Stickybits are being placed around the airport as part of the Gatwick Discovery Tour which will inform passengers about renovations currently underway.

Trying scanning the code in the photo below, which will reveal a time lapsed video of airport construction.

The first codes were installed in the North Terminal of Gatwick Airport this morning, more codes will continue to be installed in other areas of the airport to keep passengers informed as renovations progress.

We love this smart, innovative use of stickybits. Bravo to our friends in the UK.

We’ve recently come up with a new way for you to access food52 recipes while you’re at the grocery store, or even while you’re wandering around your kitchen looking for something to cook. Using the StickyBits application, we, along with a few intrepid volunteers, have linked hundreds of our community’s recipes to the bar codes on ingredients all over the country.
